Clerk

The Office of the Municipal Clerk is a vital unit of local government that provides an essential link between citizens and their local governing body. The Village Clerk performs all duties as prescribed by WI Statute 62.09(11). Statutory duties of the Clerk include:

  • Administers oaths and affirmations.
  • Responsible for the care and custody of the corporate seal.
  • Maintains public records and ensures that they are properly preserved, filed, and disposed of in accordance with the ordinances of the Village of Biron and Wisconsin State Statutes
  • Arranges for the timely publication of all legal notices.
  • Attends all governing body committees, commissions and boards meetings, preparing agendas, taking meeting minutes, and maintaining an official record of the proceedings.
  • Maintains the Municipal Code of Ordinances.
  • Processes and issues all licensing applications and permits and maintains the official records of them.
  • Conducts and administers all elections in compliance with State Statutes, including staffing the polls, voter registration, absentee voting, preparation of legal notices, tests election equipment, and conducts the Board of Canvass.
  • Serves as official secretary of the Board of Review
  • Financial Administration: withdrawal or disbursement from local treasury; accounting of cash receipts and disbursements; preparation of the State's Financial Reporting Form; assists in preparing annual budget;
  • Tax Responsibilities: Examination and Correction of the Assessment Roll; prepare annual Statement of Assessment and file with the Department of Revenue; prepare Tax Exemption Report and file with the Department of Revenue; annually prepare a tax roll; Notify assessor of any errors discovered on the tax roll; Submit to County Treasurer a statement showing the total amount of taxes levied by the municipality; prepare and file an annual statement of taxes with the Department of Revenue.
