Private wells for irrigation

Private Wells are permitted in the Village of Biron for lawn irrigation systems only. Well Permit renewal and water sampling are required every five years. The well water must be tested for Total Coliform and E. Coli bacteria to meet well renewal requirements.

Wells must be constructed to meet the code requirements of NR 812 Well Construction & Pump Installation. Please use the steps below as a guide for new well installations.

How to obtain well operation permit

Wells that do not meet Code requirements may be required to be filled in and sealed at the property owner’s expense! A licensed pump installer or well driller must do filling and sealing. Wells located in basements or pits generally do not meet Well Code requirements and are usually required to be filled in and sealed by licensed personnel.

  • The inspection must be done by a state licensed well driller or pump installer, at the applicant’s expense. This inspection is required every 10 years.
  • A completed and signed copy of the NR 812 Compliance Report (WDNR Form #3300-305) must be on file with the utility.
  • There shall be no cross-connections between the well's pump installation or distribution piping and the municipal water system.
  • The well water shall not discharge into a drain leading directly to a public sewer utility unless properly metered and authorized by the sewer utility.
  • If the well is to be abandoned; filling shall be observed or verified by a representative of the Village.
