As early as 1839 Faye & Draper put up a sawmill here and sawed the first lumber in this vicinity. Francis X. Biron, after whom the town was named, came here in 1840 and bought the mill in 1846. The site of Biron was surveyed in June, 1895, by E. I. Philleo, by direction of the Grand Rapids Pulp & Paper Co., the plat being recorded November 13, 1896. In 1910 the village was incorporated.

The Biron Village Fire Department was first formed in November 1937.  The first fire station was a garage situated on CPI Biron Division land where the first fire truck was kept.  In 1997 the fire department moved to its current location on Kahoun Road.

In March 1920 A.F. Billmeyer was awarded the contract for what was known as the Biron Community Hall at the cost of $33,388.  Later bonds were authorized for its completion.  It was a 45 by 70 foot auditorium with dressing rooms and showers, a small stage and motion picture equipment. A balcony extended around three sides of the auditorium.  The bowling alley, billiard room and small kitchen were on the lower floor. The upper floor had a reading room, lobby, council chambers, and toilets. The official opening was held October 17, 1920.

During February 1997 village officials moved into a new municipal building and fire station.  The 13,300 square foot facility includes a 4,400 square foot fire station with an 1,800 square foot village hall and offices and a 3,000 square foot assembly area with the capacity for 200 people.

In July 2014 construction of the 230 acre Biron business park was completed. There are three main areas of development to the park.  One area is geared to house manufacturing and industrial-type businesses. The highway commercial zone of the park, along Highway U, hopes to draw restaurants or hotels, and the third area is dedicated to mixed-use commercial properties, perhaps service-type businesses. Public green spaces are also part of the concept.

The Village of Biron has a population of 850.
