Hydrant Flushing: June 2nd – August 29th
The Department of Public Works will flush all fire hydrants in the Village of Biron. Flushing hydrants ensures they are in good working order and helps flush sediment out of the distribution system.
While flushing is occurring in your area, you may notice a drop in pressure or see discoloration in your water. If discoloration occurs, let your water run for a few minutes, preferably from your outside hose connection, and it should clear up. The water is safe to drink even if it is discolored. If you are concerned with discoloration, you may not want to do laundry on the day hydrants are flushed in your area. If your water pressure remains lower than normal after flushing has occurred in your area, please clean your faucet screen to remove silt and mineral sediment that could be obstructing water flow.
If you have any questions, please call the Village of Biron at 715-423-6580 or the Village of Biron Department of Public Works at 715-323-2001.
Water Tower Online
On May 20th the work on the Village’s water tower was completed. After two safe samples, the tower was restored backed to service on May 27th.
Water Tower Offline
On April 17th the Village’s water tower will be taken offline for approximately 6-8 weeks to restore and repair the tower’s interior and exterior. We do not anticipate any interruption of services while the tower is being repaired.
Discontinuation of Fluoride
After the EPA ruling that was published on September 24th, 2024 (see attached link), discussion began on the discontinuation of fluoride to the Village’s drinking water. The water committee met on October 30th and again on November 6th to have further discussions. The water committee put in a lot of time into researching fluoride. Then two of the three water committee members toured the drinking water plant on November 11th. There they saw how corrosive fluoride is on the equipment.
At the November 11th board meeting, the board voted to discontinue the addition of fluoride to the Village's drinking water. The last day of fluoridation was December 28th 2024.
