About
The Biron Sewer Utility is governed and monitored by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Locally the Utility reports to the Biron Village Board.
Summary
The Village’s wastewater is treated at the Wisconsin Rapids Wastewater Plant located at 2540 1st Street South.
The Sewer Utility is responsible for serving approximately 400 customers by maintaining approximately 15 miles of sanitary sewer mains ranging in size from 2 inches to 12 inches in diameter. The Village maintains six lift stations. Users of the wastewater system are billed monthly. The amount of water used in your home or business is the amount used to figure your wastewater bill.
Read Village ordinance 13.26 Use of Public Sewers to learn about what you should and should not discharge into the sanitary sewer.

Sewer Odors
All fixtures connected to the sanitary sewer system are required to have a trap that prevents sewer smell and sewer gas from entering your home or building. Sewer gasses develop as the sewage starts to decompose on its way to the wastewater treatment plant.
If you smell any sewer odors within your home or office, make sure that none of your traps are dry. Check your basement floor drains and any fixtures that are infrequently used. If the sewer smell persists, call the Village immediately at (715)423-6580. Sewer gas can be dangerous! Sewer gas and odors typically will enter through a dry trap or a broken service line under the structure. Flushing or cleaning of the sewer mains will at times provide some temporary reduction in the sewer smell. The property owner will be responsible for hiring a plumber to fix any plumbing problems within the facility.
Compliance Maintenance Annual Report
Chapter NR 208, Wis. Adm. Code is more commonly known as the Compliance Maintenance Annual Report (CMAR) rule for publicly and privately owned domestic wastewater treatment works. The CMAR is a self-evaluation tool that promotes the owner's awareness and responsibility for wastewater collection and treatment needs, measures the performance of a wastewater treatment works during a calendar year, and assesses its level of compliance with permit requirements.
The Purpose of the Program
The purpose of the CMAR is to evaluate the wastewater treatment system for problems or deficiencies. Management, operation and maintenance activities are described. Owners identify proposed actions to prevent violations of WPDES permits and water quality degradation. The CMAR program also encourages actions that:
- Promote the owners’ awareness and responsibility for wastewater collection and treatment needs.
- Maximize the useful life of wastewater treatment systems through improved operation and maintenance.
- Initiate formal planning, design and construction for system upgrades.
The CMAR Form
The CMAR form is a communication tool for identifying needs for future planning. The CMAR form:
- Describes the management and physical condition of the wastewater treatment works during the previous calendar year.
- Assesses system performance and wastewater maintenance activities.
- Evaluates compliance with WPDES permit requirements
- Provides an objective analysis to determine whether a more detailed evaluation of the wastewater facility is needed.
- Identifies proposed actions necessary to maintain regulatory compliance.
