About

The Biron Water Utility is governed by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) and is monitored by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Locally the Utility reports to the Biron Village Board.

Wells

The Utility maintains 2 well sites. All of our water comes from these wells and is considered groundwater.

The average daily pumpage ranges from 56,000 gallons to 185,000 gallons per day to customers in our service area. The depths of the wells are 65 feet. Our system contains a 250,000-gallon water tower. The tower ensures water availability during periods of high demand and provide dependable water pressures throughout the system.

Water Testing

The Municipal water is tested on a monthly basis for any bacteriological contamination throughout its distribution system. Also, all of the wells are tested on a quarterly basis. Additional testing is done daily by the Utility to measure the amount of chlorine and phosphate that are in the drinking water.

With recent amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), through the DNR, has the Utility test for a variety of chemicals in the water including,

  • Lead
  • Copper
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC's)
  • Synthetic Organic Compounds (SOC's)
  • Inorganic Compounds (IOC’s)
  • Disinfection Byproducts (TTHM, HAA5)

These tests are to ensure the quality of your drinking water and to provide you with a safe and ample supply of water for your needs.
